77 Contemporary Peruvian Artists, MATE, 2017
MATE - Museo Mario Testino is proud to present 77 Contemporary Peruvian Artists, an independently published title celebrating the dynamic contemporary art scene in Peru. Showcasing the talent of Peruvian artists to the world, the 480 page book explores a cross section of mediums, including photography, sculpture, painting, 3D installations and multi-media.
Following a chronological order based on their date of birth, each of the 77 artists are represented by a selection of their work, specially commissioned studio photography, sketches, biographical information and quotes that express textually and visually their intentions, motivations and differing points of view. It is a display of what has occurred in the last two decades and a glimpse of what is to come.
From Miguel Andrade Valdez and Jose Carlos Maritinat to David Zink Yi and Eliana Otta, the publication also explores the role Peruvian art plays in the construction of national identity, and how its vision has contributed to Lima becoming a global urban cultural destination.
